The Chandigarh-based startup produces hormone-free, antibiotic, and organically-grown eggs. With the pandemic at its peak, Namita Satija, a second-time entrepreneur, and her husband, Atul Mittal, launched Bettr Eggs to give consumers pure, organic eggs.

Revenue in the Eggs segment amounts to $5.75 bn in 2022. The market will grow annually by 13.02% (CAGR 2022-2027), according to Statista.

“Nobody knows what kind of eggs they are eating. The cycle between the laying of eggs and the person buying and eating is huge. There’s a lot of news and awareness about milk, but there is no information about eggs in the market. No one talks about antibiotic or hormone-free eggs, nobody talks about it–not even bigger brands,” she said to yourstory.

They also collaborate with small farmers to produce enriched eggs and boost their income by 30%. Within a year after its launch in 2020, the startup clocked a revenue of Rs 5 crore.

The couple then began frequent trips to Atul’s poultry farm in Chamkaur Sahib, located approximately 75 miles outside Chandigarh.

As a result of her trips to the poultry farm, she observed that eggs could become a little better for digestion if hens were fed with amla, Haldi (turmeric), etc. It encouraged the couple, and they launched Bettr eggs carrying their ideation.

In their next step, they gave samples of eggs to their doctor friends and asked them to share those eggs with their patients who had suffered from digestive problems.

After getting a fruitful response, both started reaching out to organic cafes and retailers to generate awareness about healthy eggs and marketing their products. They initially started their boxed egg sales to retailers and later collaborated with small farmers. Currently, the startup has three farmers on board. The team also aims to have a large number of ethically raised chickens, which includes cage-free hens.
